In this episode, Dr. Katz tries to encourage his son, Ben, to find a job and help around the house more. Ben does just what his father asked him to, although, instead of finding a normal job, he decides to breed Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs. Dr. Katz is happy that his son is finally getting a job but is unsure how they'll cover the expensive investment the pigs will require.
Dr. Katz is feeling a little blue. Julie, his friend, believes that working with unhappy people is probably what's causing him to feel this way. However, Stanley, another friend, thinks Dr. Katz needs a little extra something to spice up his life. Meanwhile, Ben is trying to get a date with Laura, his father's receptionist, while riding together in the elevator.
While cleaning out the linen closet, Dr. Katz accidentally throws out Bully, Ben's favorite stuffed animal when he was growing up. To make it up to his son, the doctor goes to an open mic night to sing his folk songs. Unfortunately, Dr. Katz only embarrasses Ben when he sings a song he wrote about Bully, while Ben was young.
Ben wins on a scratch off.
Ben attempts to write a book.
Dr. Katz makes a mail-order purchase he soon regrets, and Ben isn't much help.
Ben signs up for broadcasting school.
Dr. Katz finds an old chair in the garbage and has trouble deciding whether or not he should keep it.
When an ex-patient/girlfriend calls Dr. Katz for an appointment, he is unnerved at the prospect of seeing her again.
Dr. Katz has a new hobby...and it rubs off on Ben.
Dr. Katz has a problem with closet space and enlists Ben to help him with a solution.
Ben attempts to plan an exciting weekend.
Ben "wins" runner-up in a radio contest in which the winner gets to ride the weather helicopter.
Ben is suspicious after a news story that a "bald man in his late forties" hit a mailbox with his car and drove off.
It's Ben's 25th Birthday; Laura finds a baby bird.
Laura's frequent absences from work pique the interest of Ben and eventually, Dr. Katz.
Dr. Katz feels like he's slowing down.
