Meanwhile, Ren is thrilled to get a chance to sit next to Bobby Deaver on the school bus, where they both discover that they have one thing in common.

On a hiking trip, Steve splits the gang up into three partnerships: Ruby and Nelson, Bobby and Mandy, and himself and Ren. Ren becomes annoyed with this, and soon storms off, getting lost on the trail, which leads to her father to realize that his little girl has grown up.

Ruby accidentally dyes Ren's hair blond, which Ren at first is upset with. However she soon adapts to her new hair, but then gives the blonds a bad reputation.

Larry and Ren are competing to be Mr. Wexler's assistant, but Ren quits when she realizes he makes her do everything that is his own responsibility. Larry is given the job, and Ren takes the position of Coach Tugnut's assistant.

Ren's friends leave after finding some guys, when Ren meets a seemingly great guy herself. However, she soon discovers that he appears to be a merman. But mermen don't exist... do they?
