Fletch says goodbye to McLaren as he is about to be finally released from prison. Fletch bumps into Mackay and an old friend on the train as he makes his way home. Fletch's friend tempts him into returning to his old ways but it is Mackay who ends up almost committing a crime.
Fletch pays a visit to his probation officer and informs him that his wife, Isobel, has left him. Fletch isn't that bothered about trying to get a job and the reason is a legacy from a crime he committed in the past. Fletch soon discovers the field he buried his stash in has been redeveloped into a housing estate.
