A Show Which Died Too YoungRating: 1 likes, 1 dislikes
This series, set in Michigan around the early 1980's features a realistic view of teenagers and their everyday struggles to be accepted. The main story is based on the Weir family, Lindsay and Sam, their parents and friends. Lindsay had been a real book worm in school and competed on the mathletes, a competition between schools featuring math problems. Having been shaken by her grandmother's recent death, Lindsay quit the team and began hanging around with the pot smoking, low-life's of the school. The leader of the"freaks" is Daniel Desario and his girlfriend, a tough girl named Kim Kelly. At first, Kim rejects Lindsay, seeing her as a competitor for Daniel. The often wasted, want-to-be drummer Nick Andopolis has his eyes set on Lindsay, and they get together for a few episodes. Then there is Ken. He is more of a lazy, hanger-oner in the group.

Sam Weir, on the other hand is having problems growing up. His friends are considered the "geeks" in the school. The weaklings and nerds who are targets of all the bullies. They are at that age when girls are starting to interest them, yet the same cannot be said towards them. His friends are Neil Schweiber, a well-dressed Jewish kid and the son of a dentist. He is a bit more well adjusted than the other geeks, yet has never found his niche in school. Bill Haverchuck, a complete nerd who hates sports and is filled with allergies. Their group is terrorized by Alan White, a school bully who lives to hate the geeks.

The series itself has fantastic scripts and actors. The episodes are tied in nicely with classic music from the era. No matter what the scene is, the song they have added seems to fit perfectly and can soak the viewer right into the mood of the characters. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after only 18 classic episodes. I can only dream of where this show would have been headed if allowed to continue.
