When Adam Barnes died three years ago, his twin brother Derek took over his website (OccultResearch.com), renaming it FreaklyLinks.com and using it to explore the weird and unexplainable. After receiving a video taken at an ATM machine a few days earlier that shows Adam alive following a woman away from the bank, Derek enlists the help of Adam's former fiancée Chloe to find out what's going on.
Derek gets a visit from Ted and Vicky Newton, a young couple expecting their first child with a wild story: They believe that Vicky may be possessed by some form of demon. Derek initially thinks that the couple may need psychological help and calls Chloe in to do an evaluation, but after spending a night with the couple, Derek, Lan and Jason become convinced that there's something truly supernatural taking place.
Derek, Lan and Jason head to New York, where Chloe is preparing to present a psychology paper on Internet phenomena, after Derek gets his hands on a videotape that shows a man being grabbed and dragged down into the sewers.
The team find themselves in Owensmouth, Georgia, where every twenty-three years there are a series of mysterious deaths. The town seems determined not to answer any of their questions though, and insist there is no problem.
Derek and the team investigate a series of mysterious murders in a small town in Spano, Texas, that could be the result of a local desert squid after they receive an unusual e-mail from a man who identifies himself only as 'Falcon'.
Adam comes to Derek in a dream, telling him that he needs to go see Wilson Ashcroft, the man who wrote Adam's favorite book The Harbingers. Derek and the team head to Cassadega, Florida, only to learn that Ashcroft is dead, but there seems to be something really wrong with some of the residents.
The gang starts seeing clues that a dead rapper may not really be dead after all, and find a connection to a local voodoo priestess.
Derek's insistance on insinuating himself into one of Chloe's cases puts her license at risk when he forces himself into the case of a little boy who is afraid of his own shadow.
Jason heads for Baltimore after his father ends up in the hospital, and a chance encounter with a clerk at the lawfirm shows Derek that there's something freaky going on there.
When Biggs sends the team a video of a man who lives after a 200 foot jump, Derek gets himself mixed up with adrenaline vampires who have found a way to live through almost anything.
The team investigates when they see an image of a woman in the back of a police car whose body is not found in the wreckage of the car, and find themselves at odds with the local police department.
Derek tries to make money for Chloe's fines by convincing a man's mother that a skunk ape is not inhabiting her retirement complex only to discover that there is definitely something going on there.
The Final Word follows the team around as they investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of a local teenager and try to clear his best friend, who is being sent to death row for the crime.
