Kate arrives in Vancouver to start her job as new manager of Godiva's Restaurant. Meanwhile, Godiva's head chef dies, leaving Ramir, the sous chef, to take over. A power struggle rages between the two as Kate tries to replace Ramir, and he tries to send Kate back to Toronto.
Afraid she can't make payroll, Kate hires a DJ to reinvigorate the bar. Ramir wants the kitchen to be her top priority and fights to protect his menu creations. After some bad luck, the cooks and Victor become convinced that the kitchen is haunted by the ghost of Corvino. Stick tries to protect TJ from getting caught dealin E and is busted by the cops. TJ meets a girl.
Kate woos the Vancouver Sun society page columnist into visiting Godiva's and, to make-good on her promise, must transform it into Yaletown's latest hotspot. Ramir finds himself in an awkward situation with Jenna, whose feelings are stronger than his. Daisy discovers the not-so-sweet history of sugar and vows never to use it again.
Tired of Kate hogging the spotlight, Ramir launches his new menu. Kate continues her house-hunt and ends up sleeping with Lucas. Simone's bad back keeps her benched at home and she's desperate to get back into shape. TJ and Portia are hot and heavy, until it gets hotter than TJ can handle. When Stick cuts his hand, the kitchen finds out that Victor used to be a doctor in China.
Ramir embarks on a new, ill-fated tryst while Kate tries to hide things from her fiance Bruce. TJ takes it hard when his romantic attempts with Simone are coldly rebuffed. Meanwhile Victor gets work "on the side."
TJ lets friends into Godiva's for after hours fun; Kate struggles with life as a single woman; Victor surprises Daisy with a gift.
Nobody has faith in Ramir anymore, so Ramir decides to spice it up a little: he brings in his mother to the kitchen. Stick is having second thoughts about Jenna's dance partner, and the kitchen tries to get Daisy back from a parasitic cult leader.
