| 3 :01x03 - Is Your Journey Really Necessary? (Dec/02/1993) | In London of 1993 Gary reads in his recently acquired history book of the Blitz that there was a particularly heavy air raid on the East End of London on this date in 1940.
He travels back to 1940 via Ducketts Passage and convinces Phoebe to take shelter in the Underground with him, where a woman gives birth to a baby. He is picked up by the CID who have become suspicious of him because of his knowledge about forthcoming events, and who believe him to be a spy.
Meanwhile, back in 1993, Yvonne is panicking and wondering what has become of her husband. | 4 :01x04 - The More I See You (Dec/09/1993) | Yvonne leaves Gary alone for the weekend while she attends a psychology seminar in Huddersfield. Gary asks Ron, who is a printer, to forge some World War 2 identity papers for him, and is then obliged to tell Ron that he is a time traveller. Ron agrees to supply the papers on the condition that he accompanies Gary on his next trip back to 1940s London.

Gary decides that he must return, and arranges a phony football trip to Lithuania with Ron to give himself some time with Phoebe.

| 6 :01x06 - In the Mood (Dec/23/1993) | Gary arranges for Phoebe and her father, PC Reg Deadman and himself to meet King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at a hospital which they are visiting for Blitz victims.
Afterwards he takes Phoebe to The Savoy but his plans to stay the night fall apart when Phoebe's father arrives with a telegram about Phoebe's husband who has been taken prisoner by the Italians.

| 7 :02x01 - Don't Get Around Much Anymore (Feb/20/1995) | After a dinner party Gary conplains to Yvonne. She tells him they will not have sex till he makes up with Ron. Two weeks pass till Gary knocks at Ron's door.
Ron asks Gary to go back and invest some money so they become rich.
While back in 1941 Gary learns that Eric (Phoebe's father) has died. Also that Reg is helping her run the pub.
When Gary tells Phoebe he has to go back to America she kisses him passionately.

| 8 :02x02 - I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good (Feb/27/1995) | Gary discovers that he is not popular with either Yvonne in 1994, nor Phoebe in 1941. Yvonne is trying to sell the house in Cricklewood so that she and Gary can buy a larger house and start a family, but Gary is not very keen on the idea.
He revisits Phoebe in Stepney in 1941 and finds that he has a rival for Phoebe's affections. Phoebe is fed up with the way Gary visits her when he feels like it. She feels as though he is buying her off with presents all the time and wants a more serious commitment from him.
In the end Gary and Reg Deadman drown their sorrows, but when Gary leaves Ducketts Passage he comes across Reg's grandson, also a Police Officer, who promptly charges him with being drunk and in charge of a motor vehicle. | 9 :02x03 - Just One More Chance (Mar/06/1995) | After appearing in the local Magistrate's Court, Gary officially loses his driver's licence and Yvonne is furious. Shortly after his court appearance his boss phones and gives him the sack. Things are looking extremely bleak for Gary, so he visits Phoebe expecting sympathy, but not surprisingly doesn't find any from war torn London of 1941.
Yvonne has enlisted the services of a friend of hers - a marriage guidance Counsellor. Eventually, after a fight with the friend, Yvonne and Gary make it up.

| 10 :02x04 - Who's Taking You Home Tonight (Mar/13/1995) | Gary agrees to have dinner at Phoebe's but then finds himself committed to taking Yvonne out on the same evening.
He decides that he will take Yvonne to the Indian restaurant on the corner of Ducketts Passage, and then commute back and forth from 1941 to 1994 through the gents toilet window.

| 11 :02x05 - Wish Me Luck (Mar/20/1995) | Yvonne reveals that she has applied for a promotion in Macclesfield in Cheshire. Gary is very unimpressed as he can't move away from London because of Phoebe.
Yvonne goes for her job interview to Cheshire, and Gary tells Ron that he is going to stage his own suicide and go back to 1941 for good. With Ron's help he leaves a note on a bridge with his clothes and goes back to 1941 where he announces to Phoebe and Reg that he has left Cricklewood for good and is moving permanently into the area around the Royal Oak. Reg finds him a flat, but it isn't long before Gary starts missing the comforts of 1994, especially when his name is put down for fire-watching duty the following night.

| 12 :02x06 - ...As You Wave Me Goodbye (Mar/27/1995) | Gary is not particularly enjoying his time in 1941, living in a flat overseen by an interfering landlady called Mrs. Bloss who watches his and Phoebe's every move. When he is told that he must do his bit and go fire-watching, he returns to 1994 only to discover that his suicide note was never found, and that Yvonne believed him to be working in Scotland for a few days. He decides to return to the comforts of 1994.
The following day he returns to 1941 only to discover that he is extremely unpopular with Phoebe and Reg because he did not turn up for fire-watching duty, so he agrees to do it that evening. | 13 :02x07 - Would You Like to Swing on a Star (Apr/03/1995) | Gary is temporarily out of work, but is pretending to Yvonne that he is employed by Ron as a Sales Representative.
Yvonne joins the local Repertory Society and gets the lead in their new play. Gary is jealous of the leading man, Lance, but the only part that Gary can get is that of Police Inspector in the middle of the second act.
Back in 1941 he is much more successful. He enters a talent competition and wins it with his rendition of 'All The Way" . | 14 :02x08 - Nice Work If You Can Get It (Apr/10/1995) | Gary's life is becoming increasingly complicated as he endeavours to commute between performing at the piano in 1941 to spectacular applause, to the Willsden Wildean's local repertory company where he is starring opposite Yvonne as the hero in a romantic play.

| 15 :02x09 - Let Yourself Go (Apr/24/1995) | Yvonne believes that she might be pregnant and Gary is in an even worse state of panic than usual as he doesn't think that he is very good with children. Yvonne decides that she will visit her mother for the weekend to tell her the good news.
He revisits 1941 and discovers that Phoebe is going into the country for the weekend, to visit her nephew and niece who were orphaned during the Blitz. Gary decides to visit Buckinghamshire with her, knowing that Yvonne will be away. | 16 :02x10 - Don't Fence Me In (May/01/1995) | Phoebe receives a letter from the Brewery telling her that they are terminating her lease and giving it to a local man instead. Gary is furious, especially when the representative from the Brewery arrives at the Royal Oak and tells Phoebe that he will renew her licence if she sleeps with him.
Meanwhile, in 1994 a workmate of Yvonne's is being sexually harrassed by a male colleague. Yvonne suggests that they wire her up for sound in order to get evidence. Gary finds this suggestion extremely handy for Phoebe and is able to deal with the man from the Brewery.

| Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea (Dec/26/1995) | It is December, 1941 and Gary realises that the Japanese are about to bomb Pearl Harbour - the question is, should he alert American Intelligence about this fact or keep quiet about it. In the end he approaches the American General Morrow and gives him the information, encountering the British spy Guy Burgess along the way.
The new buildings along Ducketts Passage have been completed and Gary manages to rent the one which has an open portal to 1941 out the back. He meets a very sexy real estate agent called Jayne Mansfield who tries to make trouble between Gary and Yvonne.

| 17 :03x01 - It Ain't Necessarily So (Jan/01/1996) | It is nearly New Year of 1994 and Gary and Yvonne are back from their skiing holiday. Yvonne is depressed as she has lost her job and her self esteem is at an all time low. Ron is having trouble with his wife who is having a New Year party but isn't troubling to tell Ron about it.
Back in 1941, Phoebe is in trouble with Gary's landlady, Mrs. Bloss, whose brother works for the Employment Office. He threatens Phoebe, telling her that he will have her recruited into the armed forces if she doesn't stop her affair with Gary. Gary discovers some information about Mrs. Bloss which he is able to use to stop her and her brother from harrassing Phoebe.

| 18 :03x02 - One O'Clock Jump (Jan/08/1996) | Ron continues to encounter marital problems, his wife finding him fat and boring. Gary, who has opened a memorabilia shop in the building which has the portal to 1942, meets Constable Reg Dedman's grandson, also a member of the Metropolitan Police Force.
Talking to Reg in 1942, Gary is surprised to find that Reg has no children. Eventually Gary discovers that Reg had had an affair with a bus conductress, Margie, and that unknown to Reg she has a little boy, Frankie, who is Reg's son.

Ron tells him that the Germans flooded England with forged notes, by this means hoping to undermine Great Britain's economy.

| 20 :03x04 - Change Partners (Jan/22/1996) | Gary has become over confident about his relationships with both Phoebe and Yvonne, and boasts to Ron about his prowess with women.
He is in for a rude awakening, however. He discovers that Yvonne does not consider their marriage to be a success and is in the habit of visiting nightclubs with friends because she is so lonely of an evening. | 21 :03x05 - Goodnight Children Everywhere (Jan/29/1996) | Stella has thrown Ron out, and Gary takes him in for a few days. Ron develops a new friendship with Yvonne, and starts to see her side of the story. He tells Gary that he cannot go on lying to Yvonne about Phoebe, and starts dropping hints to Yvonne about Gary being a time traveller.
Back in 1942 Phoebe's orphaned niece Jane and nephew Peter are back from the country and are staying with Phoebe at the Royal Oak. Gary discovers that he is quite good with children and starts a small class, teaching Jane and Peter and some of the local children how to read and write. In 1942 Gary encounters George Formby and his organising wife who want to buy a hit song from him. | 23 :03x07 - There's Something About a Soldier (Feb/12/1996) | Phoebe's husband Donald has escaped from the prisoner of war camp in Italy and has been welcomed home as a hero.
Unfortunately, he and Phoebe hardly knew one another before they were married, and both of their lives have changed dramatically. Donald misses his mates in the army, and Phoebe is in love with Gary.

| 24 :03x08 - Someone to Watch Over Me (Feb/19/1996) | Gary returns to 1942 and discovers that Phoebe is very ill in hospital with pneumonia.
He tells Phoebe's doctor that she needs penicillin, but the doctor tells Gary that penicillin is in a very early stage of development and is hard to get.
Eventually Gary gets some penicillin capsules from Ron, which had been prescribed for Ron's Red Setter dog, Sheba. When Phoebe discovers the name on the bottle, Gary has some questions to answer.

| 25 :03x09 - The Yanks Are Coming (Feb/26/1996) | America has finally entered the war and London is full of US servicemen. Gary is very put out when he visits the Royal Oak and finds that American soldiers are lavishing presents on Phoebe.
When racism rears its ugly head at the pub, Gary is involved in a punch up with a Texan redneck, and Reg finds that he has an American cousin.

| 26 :03x10 - Let's Get Away from It All (Mar/04/1996) | Yvonne is very keen to sell their home in Cricklewood and move into a large complex with a swimming pool and gymnasium in the basement. Gary isn't particularly keen but when Yvonne tells him that the complex is nearer his shop in the East End his interest is aroused.
Meanwhile, back in 1942 Phoebe is also keen on moving into a house away from The Royal Oak. She and Gary find a place, and then Phoebe tells Gary that she is pregnant. Gary is thrilled but is unhappy about the fact that everybody will assume that the father is Donald, Phoebe's gay husband, who is now serving in Egypt.

| 27 :04x01 - You're Driving Me Crazy (Mar/03/1997) | Yvonne and Phoebe are both pregnant, and Gary is worried sick about how he is going to cope with looking after two babies in two different eras.
Ron suggests that he could make a fortune out of antique watches, which are extremely collectable, so Gary inserts an ad in 'The Times' of 1942 and receives an answer.

| 28 :04x02 - In the Mood (Mar/10/1997) | Both Yvonne and Phoebe are experiencing very bad morning sickness, and Gary's sex life is non existent. However, the Korean company for whom Yvonne works are sending her to Korea for a couple of weeks, and Gary has plans for himself and Phoebe.
Gary's little nephew Arthur is sent to the memorabilia shop where Gary is supposed to be looking after him, but he suddently vanishes. | 29 :04x03 - Out of Town (Mar/17/1997) | Yvonne leaves for Korea, telling Gary that she will phone him every evening at 11:00 pm. This does not suit Gary who has a holiday in the country with Phoebe planned for the next week, so Ron comes to the rescue again, telling Yvonne when she rings that Gary is suffering from laryngitis.
To further complicate matters, Gary's father pays him an unexpected visit, and is very hurt when Gary tells him that he has to go away for a week. A ticket to see the Three Tenors - Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo - cheers him up, and also some genuine wartime stamps worth thousands of pounds keeps the peace.
Eventually Gary and Phoebe have their holiday, but only after endless complications. | | | |
| 30 :04x04 - And Mother Came Too (Mar/24/1997) | Ron is involved in a fight with Stella's latest lover, and ends up in gaol.
Phoebe receives news that her husband Donald has been killed and is very upset. She tells Gary that she cannot marry him for at least a year, but Gary has other plans.
A tree is planted as a memorial for Donald and Gary is in the unique position of being able to see it as a sapling in the afternoon, and fifty four years later as a gigantic tree in the moonlight. | | | |
| 31 :04x05 - The Leaving of Liverpool (Apr/08/1997) | Gary tells Ron that he is going to Liverpool with Phoebe to visit her grandmother. Ron tells Gary that his grandfather came from Liverpool and that he carries the family's honour because he rescued a child from a burning building almost exactly fifty four years ago to the day. Gary agrees to watch out for Ron's grandfather while he is visiting with Phoebe.
Gary runs into Ron's grandfather in Liverpool's Lime Street pub and turns out to have feet of clay. | 32 :04x06 - How Long Has This Been Going On? (Apr/15/1997) | Gary and Phoebe go to see the film 'Mrs. Miniver' and this brings on a discussion about the sort of education that they wish their child to have, public school or state school, Phoebe being keen on a public school because of the accent and the class structure.
Yvonne is back from Korea and has suffered a miscarriage. Her mother Helen is visiting, and she has a misunderstanding with Ron who had arranged for a lady of the night to visit him at Gary's house.
Reg Dedman's girlfriend Margie has split from her abusive husband and at Gary's suggestion they have decided to move in together with their little boy Frankie. Unfortunately Margie's husband visits the Royal Oak and mistakes Gary for Reg, with almost disastrous results. Only Reg's quick thinking saves the day. | | | |
| 33 :04x07 - Easy Living (Apr/22/1997) | While coming to terms with her miscarriage, Yvonne becomes interested in alternate health therapies.
Phoebe is very busy planning for her wedding to Gary, but is finding Gary distracted and absent for a lot of the time.
Gary is having trouble dealing with his double life; he feels that Yvonne needs him because of her emotional state, and finding time to arrange a marriage in 1942 is becoming increasingly difficult. Reg is also becoming more and more paranoid because his Station Sergeant has heard about his new domestic arrangements with Margie and doesn't approve. | | | |
| 34 :04x08 - Come Fly with Me (Apr/29/1997) | Gary and Phoebe have set a date for their wedding and some Canadian airmen decide that Gary should have a stag party the night before. Ron also thinks that Gary should have a stag party, complete with stripper, so Gary is faced with two stag parties held in two different dimensions, fifty four years apart.
Although Gary is able to survive his stag party with Ron, the next one with the Canadian airmen proves to be disastrous. After quarrelling with one of the airmen and having a bet about drinking him under the table, Gary wakes up in a Lancaster Bomber which crash lands in the English Channel. He and the Canadian airman are picked up by a passing submarine. Gary makes it back to Cricklewood in 1995 and goes to bed, totally exhausted. | | | |
| 35 :04x09 - Heartaches (May/06/1997) | As a result of the excesses of his stag parties, Gary oversleeps and is late for his wedding with Phoebe. Phoebe is furious and calls the whole thing off.
After finding Phoebe, who has gone into hiding, Gary is able to explain what happened and a new date is set. Reg acts as Gary's Best Man and also gives Phoebe away, and Gary and Phoebe are married at last. | | | |
| 36 :04x10 - Careless Talk (May/13/1997) | Ron's marriage to Stella is over, and he isn't having any luck with the opposite sex. When Gary asks him to forge some more five pound notes for the 1940s he refuses, blaming Gary for his lack of success on the romantic front.
Gary is desperate for some money as he and Phoebe owe Reg ten pounds for decorating their nursery, so he arranges a date for Ron with Kate, a girl whom Ron quite fancies. Ron gets drunk and tells Kate that Gary is a time traveller, and in the end Kate and Yvonne lie in wait for Gary at the shop to see if this is true. | | | |
| 37 :04x11 - The Bells Are Ringing (May/20/1997) | Yvonne invests all of hers and Gary's money in a health food venture with a man called Clive whom Gary despises because he wears a ponytail. When Clive vanishes Yvonne gets drunk with Ron. Ron's printing business has just gone bankrupt and he is minding Gary's memorabilia shop while Gary pays a visit to November, 1942.
Phoebe goes into labour with the baby. Despite her initial refusals, she allows Gary to be with her while she gives birth at the Royal Oak to a little boy whom they christen Michael. | | | | Series 5 |
| 38 :05x01 - A Room with a View (Feb/23/1998) | It is January, 1944 and Phoebe and Gary are having a night in, listening to Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence giving a performance of Private Lives. Yvonne, whose health food venture has made her a millionaire, is in Switzerland on business.
Gary takes Michael out in his pram onto White Chapel Road and is nearly killed by a bomb. He is literally blown through the 1940s portal into 1998 carrying his child with him. In shock he takes Michael around to Ron's place, where he unexpectedly encounters Yvonne who has just returned from Switzerland.
After returning to 1944 he and Phoebe decide to move to the West End where it is safe. Gary finds a flat in Mayfair, and discovers that his new neighbour is none other than Noel Coward. | | Guest Stars: David Benson as Noel Coward | | | |
| 39 :05x02 - London Pride (Mar/02/1998) | Gary and Phoebe are getting on very well with their new neighbour, Noel Coward. Phoebe is distressed, however, when she finds that the local tradesmen are not treating her fairly because she has an East End accent. Noel comes to the rescue with some elocution lessons.
Yvonne's business is expanding and she is mixing with Fergie, Baby Spice, Cherie and Tony Blair and all the so-called 'smart' set. | | | |
| 40 :05x03 - When Two Worlds Collide (Mar/09/1998) | When an unexploded bomb goes off in Duckettts Passage Reg suffers a head injury which makes him quite bright mentally, but this is only a temporary thing.
Gary has trouble getting back to 1998 because of the rubble in Duckettts Passage and is shocked to find that Phoebe has followed him through the time portal into the memorabilia shop in 1998. Events take off from here, with the portal to 1944 being temporarily closed. Fortunately Noel Coward is minding little Michael, but when Yvonne and Ron arrive on the scene Gary feels that the situation has gone completely out of control, especially when his two wives meet for the very first time. | | | |
| 41 :05x04 - Mairzy Doats (Mar/16/1998) | Due to the erratic nature of the time portal, Ron is now able to travel back to 1944. Posing as Commander Bond, with an identity heavily dependent on Ian Fleming's James Bond, he pretends to be in Army Intelligence and invites Reg, Margie, Gary and Phoebe to come up to the West End to celebrate Reg's promotion to Scotland Yard.
Temperamentally unprepared for forties London, Ron gets drunk and makes a complete fool of himself, alienating the people around him, especially Gary. | | | |
| 42 :05x05 - Pennies from Heaven (Mar/23/1998) | Gary desperately needs more wartime five pound notes, but Mrs. Flanagan, Ron's employer at the printing works, won't let the staff do private work in company time.
Gary has a complete list of dead certs for the racing results of 1944, but finds that Phoebe is extremely hostile to the idea of him gambling. Nevertheless, Gary goes ahead with his plan for making money and finds an off-course bookie with whom to place his bets at Hackney races. The bookie is a crook who waits to see who nobody has backed and then puts up this horse as a winner. A punch up occurs, and Gary finds himself penniless.
Ron tells Gary to take Mrs. Flanagan out so that he can print the white fivers on the quiet. Mrs. Flanagan is a very highly sexed woman so Gary takes her to the back of the shop and vanishes into the time portal, leaving the lady with the idea that she has a drink problem. | | | | | | |
| 44 :05x07 - ... But We Think You Have to Go (2) (Apr/06/1998) | To his absolute horror Gary finds that he has been tricked, and that he has landed straight into the hands of the Gestapo in Calais. Back in England a cocky Tifty McDuff informs his superiors that the sparrow has landed.
Meanwhile the real Henri Dupont has moved into the Royal Oak with Phoebe, who refuses to sleep with him, spending the night with Margie and sending Reg to sleep at the Royal Oak with Dupont.
Eventually, with the help of Celeste, a beautiful member of the French Resistance, Gary escapes.

(Apr/13/1998) | After his wartime adventures in German occupied France, Gary finds it very hard to settle down to everyday life and he starts having weird nightmares in which all the subconscious anxieties and guilt about being a bigamous time traveller come to the surface, and threaten to take over his life.
Ron's divorce from Stella comes through, but this means that the bailiffs move in and repossess his new flat and all of its contents. | 46 :05x09 - Love the One You're With (Apr/20/1998) | Ron continues to live in the Mayfair flat in 1998 while Phoebe and Gary inhabit it in 1944. Phoebe is secretly taking singing lessons from Noel Coward for Margie's 40th birthday party which is coming up.
One day while Gary is visiting Ron at the flat the porter tells them that the previous inhabitant had been run over by a bus in July, 1944 and Gary realises that the hall porter is talking about him. Gary must act quickly to change the past before his number comes up.
