Because Brendon is being harassed by Jason, he cannot focus and this leads Coach to the conclusion that he is on drugs.

The gang goes to Fenton's birthday party. Fenton's mom is aware of Brendon's filmmaking skills and asks him to make a video tribute for her son to be shown at the party. However, what she doesn't realize is that Fenton is a spoiled brat; Brendon makes a film that portrays this.

In order to impress Cynthia, Brendon takes her to a country club using Jason's membership. Paula goes to a temp agency, but is hindered by her test anxiety. Coach, after having little luck finding a date, lies to an old friend from high school in order to get her to go out with him.

Brendon's mom volunteers to be a chaperon for a class field trip to a hotel. The gang takes this opportunity to sneak away and finish a movie they've been working on. Meanwhile, Coach gets a job at a nearby coffee shop, but he uses Brendon's name to avoid problems with a background check.

Mr. Lynch tells Brendon that he is failing history, on account of not doing any homework or studying for tests (and more likely, unknown to Mr. Lynch, because Coach is the one tutoring him). This is particularly evident from all the faulty information that Brendon uses in his latest film, "Starboy and the Captain of Outer Space."

The writer's fair is not far away, and Brendon is suffering from a bad case of writer's block. The trio gets continually worried that they won't have a project to present. Paula also has a writer's block as she tries to author a romance novel.
