1 :01x01 - Get Away from My Mom

Brendon's mother, Paula, is recently divorced. She's eager to get back into the dating world, so she hesitantly informs Brendon that she's going on a date that night. At first, he's quite uncomfortable hearing this news and insists that she's not supposed to have such engagements. However, he becomes even more uneasy when he learns that her big date is his soccer coach, John McGuirk, who Brendon not-so-fondly refers to as "McGuirk the Jerk." This gives some indication of Brendon's distaste for him.



2 :01x02 - I Don't Do Well in Parent-Teacher Conferences

On top of this, Mr. Lynch needs to talk to Paula about her son's lack of effort. Unfortunately, she does not do well in meetings and often says inappropriate things.



3 :01x03 - The Art of the Sucker Punch

In response, Brendon challenges Shannon to a fight in order to teach the bully a lesson once and for all.

Paula tells Brendon that this will be an opportunity to prove that he has enough responsibility to take care of a dog. Unfortunately, he accidentally leaves their front door open. Alexandre takes advantage of his mistake and runs outside and far away from Brendon, who must now try and find the lost cat.



5 :01x05 - Yoko

Coach McGuirk takes the soccer team on a camping trip. One of the campers urinates in McGuirk's canteen, and he unfortunately drinks it. On the plus side, one of the girls, Loni, develops a crush on Brendon. He invites her to act in one of his movies, but the result is not pretty. The gang soon realizes that Brendon's new girlfriend is a terrible actress and thus earns the disrespect of Melissa and Jason. Brendon also finds out that Loni brings some extra baggage in the form of an ex-boyfriend.



6 :01x06 - Director's Cut

Opinions clash about the subject matter of the next movie. Brendon wants to make a film about a meeting between Louis Pasteur and Louis Braille. However, everyone else is more excited about Dwayne's rock opera that he wrote based on the life of Franz Kafka. They give Dwayne's idea a try, and everyone but Brendon feels like it's brilliant. McGuirk also faces conflict when the assistant coach, Drew, takes control and actually, well, coaches the team.



7 :01x07 - It Was Supposed to Be Funny

She eventually convinces him to take on the project, expecting a wonderful homage to her grandfather. Brendon, though, has other ideas about the direction of the film after he views the rather boring and useless footage he videotaped. Although he means no harm, he creates a rather tasteless film that is far from honorable.

Brendon auditions for a role in a play, but the director doesn't really feel he's quite ready. He encourages Brendon to enroll in the acting class he teaches. After much pleading with his mother, she agrees to finance this decision. Coach McGuirk recruits the soccer team to help him fill out entry forms for a sweepstakes to win a hovercraft. Paula teaches a creative writing class to an apathetic group of adults. She shares an accidental kiss with one of her students and tries to keep this secret from Brendon, who has his own secret.



9 :01x09 - Life Through a Fish Eye Lens

Brendon's new film seems to be missing something. Melissa and Jason blame it on the writing, but Brendon thinks it has more to do with the camera. He's sure that the remedy is to buy a fish eye lens. Unfortunately, the Smalls are a bit tight on money and Paula has to refuse his request. So, Brendon goes on a series of quests to earn the money himself. Coach McGuirk stresses the importance of the team's next game. They will be playing against his mentor and former elementary school coach, Coach Ralph.



10 :01x10 - School Nurse

The new school nurse, Nurse Kirkman, find that Jason and Melissa are infested with lice and must be sent home from school. This gives Brendon the idea to try and fake his way home, complaining of several different illnesses. However, the nurse has quite the eye for fakers and catches on to his shenanigans very quickly. Unlike Brendon, hygienically-deficient Jason has valid reason to see the nurse and develops a crush her. He has some competition from Coach McGuirk, though, who asks her out on a date.



11 :01x11 - Mortgages and Marbles

Brendon films his little sister, Josie, instructing her to do something cute. In the one moment he gets distracted, she shoves marbles up her nose. This accident inspires Brendon to create an educational video to warn other children about the dangers of marbles. He goes to Mr. Lynch for advice on teaching, who suggests bright colors, music, and humor. Coach McGuirk also needs some help. After meeting Melissa's father, Erik, at a soccer game, he asks for assistance purchasing a new house.



12 :01x12 - Law and Boarders

As if that weren't bad enough, the kids are having problems with their new movie. Things continue to spiral downwards as Brendon learns he has to appear in court for causing the accident. He'll need someone trustworthy to represent him and to influence the people that he's innocent. Paula's friend, Stephanie, is in town and staying with the Smalls. She seems like a pleasant person but is a terrible house guest.

However, when Brendon is asked in an interview about the creative influence his dad had on him, his curiosity compels him to further explore his relationship with his father. Coach McGuirk is understandably forced to attend anger management therapy in order to keep his job.

This is particularly evident from all the faulty information that Brendon uses in his latest film, "Starboy and the Captain of Outer Space."

The kids, thinking that the boat will take them to Europe, hop aboard.
