John Ritter plays a San Francisco police inspector in ABC's dramatic comedy (a dramedy?) Hooperman. Not that quirky Harry Hooperman is exactly your conventional cop. He coaxes down folks threatening to jump from buildings by tossing a watermelon over the ledge. He washes his face in his toilet bowl. He uses a dog, a little mutt named Bijou, as a partner in fighting crime. and when he's upset he cries. Harry is sort of a thinking man's cop, a respected guy who gets the job done - usually in a bizarre fashion- by choosing brain over brawn. The show was created by Steven Bochco and Terry Louise Fisher.
