A look into the life and death of the religious fanatic.
Although this episode, doesn't cover anything in terms of revelations about Jim Jones it does do a concise job of explaining the man's history. It also does present more interviews with the followers of Jim Jones (including those who survived) and explain more about what it was like inside Jones's cult.
A really interesting look inside the mind of Jim Jones. He was a paranoid, religious fanatic who liked the power he wielded over people. A couple of the people who followed him were indeed suckers and were easy prey to him, others really believed the nonsense he spewed out.
This episode has a lot of interviews with people who managed to escape the cult before the Jamestown mass suicide and explains in detail how Jones manipulated his own people into orchestrating the suicide (made them they were going to be killed).
It also goes in depth about Jones's life. He was a great public speaker like a great con-man he made people what he was saying. He was a politician. Nonetheless, despite a lot of his deeds he was a hypocrite. The cult itself was something out of your worst nightmares. Jones despite his moral religious belief also liked to have multiple wives and slept around with his female followers. When you get to hear all the sordid details, you would think more people would rise up against the man. Few did. Those who did were killed. A few of the survivors are interviewed including those who ran away from the madman before the suicide. All the episode does a decent job of covering everything we know about the guy along with providing rare interviews with the survivors of his cult.
Jim Jones is a typical example of what's wrong with religion namely that the people on top of the religious ladder abuse their power (people also seem to forget that Pope John Paul II never did anything to counter the
sexual molestation of young boys in Catholic church).
