Running Fox (Zahn McClarnon) leaves his tribe to meet the white man. Meanwhile, Jacob (Matthew Settle) and Thunder Heart Woman take a perilous journey to California after they meet a fast-talking pitch man (Beau Bridges) and join his large wagon train. On their trip, the travelers take in breathtaking vistas but must endure unforgiving river crossings, torrential storms, disease and Indian warriors.
