After being shot by a sniper while vacationing at a mountain cabin, Chief of Detectives Robert T. Ironside is left paralyzed from the waist down. Confined to a wheelchair, he continues to investigate crime in San Francisco when he is named a special consultant to the SFPD. His efforts are assisted by a staff which included Sgt. Ed Brown, Officer Eve Whitfield, and Marc Sanger.
