Ironside: The Past is Prologue

Ironside attends a graduation party for Tom Stowe, who has put himself through Stamford. Years earlier, Ironside's intervention helped Stowe off the wrong path and motivated him to succeed and achieve. Then one of Ironside's colleagues enters with a warrant naming Wally Stowe, Tom's father, a murderer! It seems that nearly twenty years ago in New York, Wally (then Frank Tomlecek) murdered his employer and fled. Ironside decides to investigate the case, and the more he learns the less he likes what he learns.

Episode Notes
Harrison Ford, in a very early appearance, plays a character whose father was a carpenter. Three years later, Ford would largely abandon acting for a career as a carpenter. As a carpenter, he was hired to build cabinets for George Lucas, who cast him first as a supporting actor in American Graffitti (1973), and just a few years later as Han Solo, the role that propelled him to star status.

Episode Quotes
Mark: You told him.
Ironside: He needed telling.
Mark: Yeah, but you wasted the phone call. If we had a window put in this buzzard's roost, he'd have heard you all the way back in New York.
Ironside: I suppose I woke you up.
Mark: That you did.
Ironside: About time you got out of the the sack.
Mark: It's about time you hit the sack, isn't it?

Ironside: Well, I struck out. Commissioner says we play this one by the book.
Eve: Too bad we can't rewrite the book.
Ironside: Who says we can't?

Ed: Chief, people say you're ruthless. Is that true?
Ironside: Only when I want something.

Ironside: Well, now that I look at you, Commissioner, you do seem a bit shaggy around the collar. However, you have to make an appointment for that chair.
Commissioner: Of course, I could take my business someplace else. Welcome home, Bob.
Ironside: Thank you. It's heartwarming to find you like this.
