Recap

Det. Sgt. Brown (Galloway) encounters Officer Leonard (Chiles) moonlighting as a cab driver despite a department directive. Brown, a passenger, and Leonard unwittingly step into a narcotics “drop” and when they attempt to arrest the suspect, he is shot. Narcotics pusher Dameron (Homeier) and his confederate (MacLeod) are confident that the investigation of Lt. Simon (Marley) will not reveal their role. Brown’s confidence and Leonard’s innocence is badly shaken when Simon turns up damaging evidence. ..

Episode Quotes
Lt. Murray Simon: It matches your story pretty good.
Ed: You don't like the story, Lieutenant?
Lt. Murray Simon: Me? What's to like or not like? I'm in the complaint division. I just look into irregularities and I want to tell you we got plenty here.

(after he's been suspended)
Ed: I never knew you to pay such close attention to regulations.
Ironside: This office may be unorthodox, but it's still part of the police department. Now you're welcome here, very welcome, but for the time being you're just Mr. Ed Brown.
Ed: Thank you, but I think I'd feel a little out of place.

Capt. Barnes: You know, there no law that says a plain ordinary civilian-type citizen can't, ah, have two jobs. But if one of our men has trouble, it counts against him.
Ironside: I know. It's a little like having more than one girlfriend. The first one finds out, she figures she's not getting your undivided attention.

Ironside: Well, you dropped that on him pretty fast.
Lt. Murray Simon: It'll get to Ray Leonard fast.
Ironside: You're not so sure about him any more.
Lt. Murray Simon: I remember I got a note once, years back. "Dear Murray, When in doubt, put the pressure on. Sincerely, Robert T. Ironside"
Ironside: Pressure makes a good cop.
Lt. Murray Simon: Or breaks a bad one, which is precisely why we're here, right?

Ironside: You live well but not outlandishly, Mrs. Leonard. offhand guess is your husband's salary could support a home like this.
Pat Arnold: How would you know? You're an important man in the department. You have everything.
Mark: If you do, I'd like to get that dollar back you borrowed from me last week.
