| Carl: (opening narration) Tuesday, May 2nd, 1:00pm. Mickey Patchek was a dealer, a snitch, a peddler of information. His clothes were as cheap as his reputation. So when he phoned me with some information to sell, I was surprised that he wanted to meet me in the heart of Chicago's chichi high-fashion district. What started out as mild surprise culminated in stark raving terror. | Carl: He gave me a deadline – with the accent on “dead”.
Tony: Well, threats are the standard situation with newsmen, Carl. You know that. It goes with the territory like the high salary. | Carl: Can you get up out of your chair and walk to the window? Can you make it??
Tony: [arriving at window] Now what do I do? Jump?
Carl: You want me to open the window for you? Look. Look, look down there in the street. See the guy leaning up against the car reading the newspaper?
Tony: Yeah…
Carl: Well, does he look like a scoutmaster to you?!?
Tony: Well look, Carl. We can call the police; they’ll pick him up and shake him down.
Carl: On what charge? Slow reading in public? | Carl: Okay, how much is it?
Witch: There is no charge. A nominal contribution will be appreciated.
(The witch offers a bowl and Carl puts some money into it.)
Witch: Not that nominal. | (Carl has discovered that Madelaine can kill people with a kind of doll.)
Madelaine: I could make you… so important.
Carl: How? By killing off all my enemies? You’d have to buy out a controlling interest in a doll factory for that! |

| Doctor:
Bernie Kopell is better known for a different role as medical professional, "Dr. Adam Bricker" the ship's doctor on Love Boat. And fans of Get Smart (1965) will certainly recognize Agent 86's on again, off again nemesis Sigfried. | Madelaine:
Lara Parker was no stranger to playing witches having portrayed "Angelique" on TV's Dark Shadows for 3 years. | Carl: Yeah, yeah, floats like a butterfly...
Carl is quoting part of prizefighter Muhammad Ali's most famous tagline: "Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee." It referred to the boxer's tactic of tiring opponents with footwork and then finishing them with fist work. |
