This variety show started on radio before moving to the new medium of television in 1948. From 1948 to 1963, the show was known as The Perry Como Show , Perry Como's Kraft Music Hall and The Chesterfield Supper Club. Singer Perry Como acted as host. After Perry Como left the show, it was revived in 1967 and ran until 1971. It remained a variety show, but had no permanent host. Instead, major entertainers of the time hosted various shows. The hosts included actor Henry Fonda, comedians Milton Berle and Groucho Marx and singers Eddy Arnold, John Davidson and singing duo Sandler and Young.
In 1970, it became Kraft Music Hall Presents: The Des O'Connor Show featuring English singer/entertainer Des O'Connor.
