Slim is deputized to protect a suspected killer, target of a murder attempt while awaiting trial. Lyle Bettger is never better than when he makes you hate him and he does it here. He plays a lawyer whose client is both a suspected murderer and also marked for murder. Bettger's attempt to free him consists of smuggling a gun to him. This begins a sequence of fast shooting action and tragic consequences.

Jess thinks his old pal is going to rob a train and reports it to the sheriff, who rewards him by locking him up. He then rides off with a posse of all available men. This leaves the gang alone in a nearly empty town, with a plan for emptying the bank.
