Doctor Smith realizes he may one day need the Robot's good will. So he commandeers the space pod and descends to a planet home to vegetation, but no animals. His goal: a few flowers for the Robot's birthday party! But on this planet, ruled by Tybo, vegetables are king, and harming them is a capital crime. For his crimes, Tybo intends to turn Smith into a plant! And when the Robinsons descend looking for their errant passanger, and begin hacking their way through the dense foliage, well, Tybo soon devises new forms for them, too!

Episode Quotes |
| |
Doctor Smith: All I did was pluck a few blossoms for the birthday of a dear friend – a dear, dear friend. If only he were here with me now!
Tybo: Like all you denizens of the animal kingdom you have no feelings for anyone but yourself. Killer! That's what you are! One of those hideous, warm-blooded killers!! | Willoughby: I was space wrecked here several hundred years ago, and Tybo was kind enough to save my life, with a heart transplant.
Doctor Smith: But you are human?
Willoughby: No – it was a lettuce heart.
Tybo: A perfect wedding of two worlds. He's Tybo's best friend – aren't you, Willoughby?
Willoughby: Do I have any choice? I know what might happen to me if I were your enemy. | Tybo: A few moments ago, when you murdered those flowers, you signed your death warrant! | Doctor Smith: Unhand me you insensitive clump! A brutish product of the mineral world, that's what you are!
The Robot: Personally I would prefer to leave you right where you are, Doctor Smith. But I have my orders. | John: Whatever it is that carrot may have in store for us, we're getting out of here now. | Doctor Smith: I should have preferred to see myself as something more graceful, perhaps. A lovely calla lily, or a fragrant rose. How some ever, all things considered, I am quite content.
Judy: I don't see anything to be happy about being an over-sized celery stalk, Doctor Smith. | John: Run, Will! Run!!
Tybo: It won't help you. No matter where you fall, you'll take root. | Tybo: Moisture! Water! I must have water!! |

Penny speculates that plants might feel pain, and that plant life isn't so different from animal life. In fact, plant life is very different from animal life – a misapprehension on Penny's part that biologist Maureen should have corrected, both from a professional perspective and an educational perspective. That does not preclude the possibility that an alien plant might feel pain, but if it did it would require at the least something that does the job of the central nervous system. Plants native to Earth have nothing like that. | Penny's transformation into a plant comes and goes – when Tybo discovers that John has cooled off the chamber, she's almost covered by vines. A moment later, there is almost no evidence of plant growth. |

Analysis |
| |
This episode contains a number of plot weaknesses, but certainly the most glaring must be the fact that Tybo built his prison cell directly over the access hatch to the equipment he uses to manipulate the environment for the benefit of his plant ecology. John was able to access the equipment and then to sabotage it, all without Tybo detecting this, or realizing where the fault was when the effects began to manifest. Tybo, in fact, would have died from this mistake had not John elected to provide him with water. |
