Love & War is a three season CBS sitcom from the early to mid-1990s (1992-1995). The series is from
Murphy Brown vet
Diane English and had something of a rocky launch. Porter (played by
Susan Dey) left for Paris after the first season (contract was not extended) and
John Hancock (who played Ike Johnson) died shortly after the series began (Ike’s brother, Abe (played by
Charles Robinson), joined shortly after Hancock’s death). The second season saw the introduction of Dana Palladino (
Annie Potts).
First Season: Wallis 'Wally' Porter (Susan Dey) lost her husband (Kip Zakaris, played by
Michael Nouri) and restaurant (Chez Wally) through divorce and impulsively buys the Blue Shamrock (a bar & Grill located in downtown Manhattan). Wally becomes the new chef at the Blue Shamrock, and the former owner, Ike Johnson remains as manager. Various bar & Grill clientele pop up, with some as stars on the show (Jack Stein (played by
Jay Thomas), New York Register reporter). Shortly after the beginning of the first season, Abe Johnson stepped in as barman, after his brother Ike dies (after the actual actor dies).
Second Season (and beyond): Wally Porter decides to head off to Paris, and Dana Palladino (Annie Potts) takes over her role as chef at the Blue Shamrock.
