Shady Deal at Sunny Acres marked the final appearance of Diane Brewster as con woman Samantha Markham and her only appearance of Season Two. It was also the swan song of Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. as Dandy Jim Buckley who had appeared in two prior Season Two entries.

Eddie Haskell himself, aka Ken Osmond, has an uncredited bit part as a bellboy.

John Dehner would return in Marshal Maverick, The Devil's Necklace, and Greenbacks, Unlimited.

Bret: (repeatedly, about getting his money back) I'm workin' on it.

Bates: (repeatedly) If you can't trust your banker, who can you trust?

Pappyism #1: There are times when a man must rise above principle.

Pappyism #2: You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time and those are pretty good odds.

Bret: Well, I'm sorry to bother you after hours, but would you put this in the safe for me? Be glad to pay you a service charge.
Bates: What is it?
Bret: $15,000.
Bates: How did you get $15,000 in the middle of the night?
Bret: Faith, Mr. Bates… in the friendly laws of probability. Poker. Would you deposit it for me?

Bates: Now, this is my signature, not that scrawl you showed me. That isn't even an official bank receipt. I don't know what you're trying to bring off, but you won't get away with it.
Bret: Now I know why you didn't insist on a service charge. You owe me $15,000, Mr. Bates. Before I leave Sunny Acres, you're gonna give it to me.

Sheriff Griffin: (to Bret) I can't run you out of town for doin' nothing.

Sheriff Griffin: You have a grudge against him for some reason?
Bret: Yeah, you might call it that. He owes me $15,000.
Sheriff Griffin: Look, mister, for your own good, pack up your things and move outta here. Even if that yarn a yours is true, which it probably ain't, you aren't gonna get fifteen thousand out of Bates. Nobody ever got a nickel out of him, let alone any fool sum like $15,000.
Bret: Well, Sheriff, by the time my room rent's up, I'll have my fifteen thousand and be on my way.

Susan Granville: Well, what I'm trying to say is I believe you. If you say Mr. Bates stole $15,000 from you, well, I think it's probably true because, well, I don't think he's a very honest man, and I'd be very happy if you could get your $15,000 back from him, but you don't seem to be doing anything about it but just sitting here rocking and whittling!
Bret: Well, I'm thinkin', too, that's important.

Bates: Maverick, you're a real clown. Sunny Acres hasn't had such a belly laugh since Eddie Ford was here two years ago.
Bret: Well, it's nice to know I'm bringin' a little sunshine into people's lives. You ought to try it yourself sometime.

Bart: (raising a glass) Here's to good business, Mr. Bates.
Bates: For both of us.

Bret: Mornin', Sheriff. You look like a man with a burden.
Sheriff Griffin: I am. You!

Bart: Oh, you haven't changed, have you, Samantha, love? I had a feeling you wouldn't quite manage to… slip six hundred back into my pocket. There's only three here.
Samantha Crawford: Oh Bart, I - I'm sorry, but, you know, I had to count it so quickly, I couldn't let him notice and I… I guess I made a teensy mistake.
Bart: The other three hundred, Sam?
Samantha Crawford: Mm-hmm.

Henry Hibbs: Then maybe you could tell our readers how you …
Bret: Just quote me as follows, Mr. Hibbs, "I'm working on it".

Bret: Not today.
Henry Hibbs: Is, uh, is whittling your hobby?
Bret: No, no. Money.

Bates: The West is full of cleaver confidence men, "thieves" is a better word. Now, I'm not trying to press you, but I think it would be wise if you told me what you had on your mind. Let me advise you. After all, if you can't trust your banker, Bartley, who can you trust?

Ben Granville: Mr. Mansfield, did you ever meet Mr. Maverick?
Bart: I'm afraid I don't have time for it right now. I'm in a bit of a hurry.

Sheriff Griffin: Are you gonna answer my question?
Bret: Sheriff, it isn't often I can say this, I feel like I'm leavin' Sunny Acres a--a better place than I found it.

The sign on the front of the brokerage doesn't match the one that Bart and his friends put on the fake office. The first sign has "Schaffer" and the second sign has "Schafer." Bates doesn't notice the discrepancy.

The events in this episode are mentioned a few episodes later in Game of Chance.

Many fans of the series consider Shady Deal at Sunny Acres to be the best episode of the entire series and it's hard to argue with that assessment. All the cast of regulars and recurring players are here as Bret Maverick tries to recoup money that was stolen from him by a crooked banker.
