Episode Quotes

Pappyism #1: Love is the only thing in life you've got to earn. Everything else you can steal.

Pappyism #2: Make a lot of mistakes but always be sure they're your own.

McKenzie: Ere ye a God fearin' man?
Bart: Scared to death.

Bart: I feel sorry for men that gamble. Very sorry.

Bart: You don't think goin' to Deadwood is gambling?
McKenzie: No, that's enterprise.

Cindy: Remember the last time we went to Deadwood together?
Bart: There's some things one never forgets--like measels and broken arms.

Bart: My pappy once told me, "Son, you're self-centered and shifty and you know the value of a dollar so you're gonna die honored and wealthy."

Cindy: Mad?
Bart: At you, Cindy, that's impossible.

Bart: I suppose it's too late to resign.
McKenzie: No, but either way you'll be facin' a gun.

Bart: (to Cindy) Maybe that's why women dislike other women. They understand each other.

Cindy: Like to share my wagon?
Bart: Better than a kick in the shins.

Analysis

Some none too bright watchers might mistake this one for a spoof of the classic western Wagon Train but they'd be mistaken. It's pretty much a straight dramatic episode that features another pairing of Jack Kelly as Bart Maverick opposite Arlene Howell as Cindy Lou Brown. Ms. Howell and Kelly had real chemistry on-screen together but sadly this marked her last appearance on the show. Good episode with a lot of twists and turns along the way as Bart tries to guide a wagon train to the gambling and mining town of Deadwood.
