Beginning with this entry in the series, first-run episodes of Maverick starring Jack Kelly aired on alternating weeks with reruns of previous episodes that starred James Garner.

The characters of Pearly Gates and Marla would return in The Troubled Heir.

Another change for the show's final season concerned the opening credits. For the first time, Jack Kelly was billed ahead of James Garner.
