Pappyism: You can tell more about a town by looking at its gambling emporium than any other edifice.

Bart: I guess we'll be seeing quite a bit of each other.

Sheriff: (to Bart) Your kind never helps anyone unless it involves a fast buck.

Bart: (to Malone) I don't like gambling with a loaded gun especially when it's pointed at my money.

Bart: I live by the law of averages, take a chance now and then, but that doesn't classify me as a freak.

Malone: There's a payoff to every gambler's life. Mine's on its way.
Bart: I'm afraid it's already here.

No comedy in this one which was unusual for the show at this point in time. Epitaph for a Gambler is a straight dramatic episode and a pretty good one at that. Robert J. Wilke wins acting honors as a gambling hall owner who's being blackmailed over a secret that he holds regarding the local sheriff.
