So, the movie that was made in 1994 was based off the show, right? If so, how does Mel Gibson's character figure into the Maverick family?

Mel Gibson played Bret Maverick in the 1994 theatrical film. The character was played by James Garner on the TV series. Garner himself appeared in the movie as another character.

Cali, if you go to AOL Video, they have 55 episodes of the series on-line. You can watch an episode or two there and maybe get a feel for what the series was like.
