When four teenage girls are checked into the hospital, the parents find it strange that all of them are best friends together. Frank Powell suspects it's something that they all do in common that is affecting this, but Stephen tells Frank that he needs to know what is causing this, not how. Connor sent Miles McCabe and Eva Rossi to the school that they attend and hopefully find something there. Miles meets a girl named Ruby, and Ruby tells them that some girl in the school poisoned the girls in the hospital. It may be one of the small girls brawl that got out of hand. The team concludes that the four teenagers have encephalitis and is most likely sexually transmitted. The parents doesn't believe that there's any chance in hell the girls are involve in any sexual intercourse. Connor wants the permission from the parents to do a brain procedure on one of the girls to get a tissue sample from the brain so they can test it out whether the disease is there. Knowing that there is still a very small chance the girls can get brain damage after the procedure, all the parents refuse the consent, except for one.
Dr. Natalie Durant goes to that mother to try to convince her that this is the only chance to save all the girls. The mother give it a thought and eventually agree on the procedure. When Natalie is about to begin the procedure, the girl next door suddenly have a seizure. Connor and Natalie desperately try to save the girl, but eventually lost her. Natalie now doesn't need to perform the brain procedure since they can just examine the dead girl's brain instead. The results from the procedure is back, but no encephalitis is found in the brain. Then Eva comes and said several people in another town also have the disease, and not all of them are teenagers. The team now lost their commonality.
Meanwhile, Ruby checks in the hospital, but doesn't have the disease the other girls have. Miles doesn't know what's wrong with her and eventually go over the Ruby's test results with Dr. Durant. After hearing Ruby's case, Natalie tells Miles to test her stomach. Miles finds that there is a worm growing inside Ruby's stomach. She was taking a pill so she can loss weight and have friends. Miles eventually cure her. Connor begins to find other commonality of the four girls, and decides to check in the cloths they were wearing when they checked in. Eva finds two pair of jeans, both from the same brand. Connor than finds out from the parents that all their girls wear those jeans. He and Frank go to the store the girls brought the jeans. They go to the cargo area, where the jeans were uploaded. Stephen knows that if the jeans are infected, it has to happen somewhere between the shipping and the offload. If it happened at the manufactured factory, then the entire nation would be infected. Connor pictures himself in the back of the offload truck. He pictures that the chemicals (forgot the chemical name) near the jeans boxes might have been spilled, infecting the bottom two boxes, therefore infecting the two shipments in those two cities. Connor and Frank retrieve that infected boxes and have enough time to save the three girls.
