A little girl by the name of Carla is very ill due to aplastic anemia and needs a bone marrow transplant. Her father died due to the same illness and her mother also died recently. As the team ships Carla back to the NIH headquarters for better treatment, the hunt for a positive bone marrow transplant and the source of the anemia begins.
After Dr. Natalie Durant tested the bloods of Carla's parents, she finds out that she their blood are not the same compare to Carla's. That means she was adopted. Dr. Stephen Connor and Eva tracks the biological mother's address and went to her for help. However, the biological mother doesn't acknowledge that she gave up a daughter and is having a loving family right now. She slams the door shut in front of them. Eva realizes this mother is the only hope for Carla and will do anything to give Carla a chance to live.
Meanwhile, Frank Powell went to a nearby lake to search for the source. According to Carla, she and her dad went to this lake to have a picnic just before they went sick. That lake is known as the "dirty lake". However, it turns out it's not the lake that made them sick, but the food they ate. The shrimps they brought from a Korean restaurant was contaminated. As Frank returns to the hospital with a job well done, the little girl still needs a bone marrow transplant.
Eva goes to the biological mother again and asks her for the bone marrow transplant. The mother reveals that she had Carla when she was only 18 and she had no choice but to give her up for adoption or it will ruin her life. Eva tells her that her current family doesn't need to know and she can resume her normal life after she gives her bone marrow. The mother still said no. But after some thought, the mother changes her mind and decides to help her daughter. The bone marrow transplant is successful and Carla is on her way back to a full recovery.
