Mr. Lucky


Series that ran during the 1959-60 television season on NBC that concerned the adventures of a gambler nicknamed Mr. Lucky who ran a gambling ship called the Fortuna. The show was based on the 1943 movie of the same name starring Cary Grant and Laraine Day. John Vivyan starred in the television version as the title character, Mr. Lucky, and Ross Martin co-starred as his sidekick Andamo. Pippa Scott had a recurring role as Mr. Lucky's sometime girlfriend Maggie. The series was produced by future big-name director Blake Edwards and famed composer Henry Mancini provided the musical score.

1x10: Hijacked recap: After the guests depart the Fortuna for the night, Andamo checks in with Lucky. The casino owner is dealing blackjack to one last guest, Carol Van Horn. She loses again and offers a check to cover her losses. Elsewhere on the ship, three masked thugs board the ship and enter the room. They hold Lucky, Andamo, and Carol at gunpoint and tell Lucky to open the safe. Lucky takes out the money and the head thug demands that Lucky show him the checks. When he tries to pull her out, Beverly yells at him to let her go. Lucky pulls her out anyway and takes her to the Fortuna to dry out. When Lucky figures that it's a boy, Beverly tells him that she was attempting to be one with the universe and could hear the ocean spirit calling to her. She slipped when Lucky called to her and fell in. When Andamo asks for her name, Beverly gives him an obviously fake name, Tanya Markova, and demands that they take her to shore... read more.

1x7: The Gordon Caper recap: On the Fortuna, a nearly-deaf Walter Gordon is at the craps table and complains about the dice. His two associates demand a new pair and Andamo tells the croupier to go ahead. He then goes over to chat with Joyce, Gordon's private secretary. She insists that she doesn't socialize during business hours. Meanwhile, Lucky and Maggie watch as Gordon continues losing. Lucky explains that Gordon is wealthy and has been abroad in Africa financing deals in oil and land. With him is Roy Berg, Howard's executive VP, and Evan Britton, the man's PR director. Willie nervously gets up and pleads to stay, but the warden says that he has no choice. The guards lead Willie away and his fellow prisoners say goodbye to him.
