for the night, Andamo checks in with Lucky. The casino owner is dealing blackjack to one last guest, Carol Van Horn. She loses again and offers a check to cover her losses. Elsewhere on the ship, three masked thugs board the ship and enter the room. They hold Lucky, Andamo, and Carol at gunpoint and tell Lucky to open the safe. Lucky takes out the money and the head thug demands that Lucky show him the checks. Once he does, the man pats him down and takes Carol's check. Carol Van Horn: Oh, that's too much. I lose again.
Lucky: Would it help if I said I was sorry?
Carol Van Horn: It would help if you had a deck without so many picture cards.
Rovacs: You got any special enemies?
Lucky: Yeah, three gunmen in stocking masks.
Lucky: It looks like the Van Horns are at home.
Andamo: Yeah. And they don't like each other. Good for us.
Van Horn: I do not approve of you, Mr. Lucky.
Lucky: There are moments when I don't approve of me, either. But we're not going to discuss my character, are we?
Van Horn: That is all there is to discuss. I'm a respected man in this city.
Lucky: You're lucky.
Van Horn: And you are not.
Andamo: Oh, no, he is Lucky. That's a mixed-up metaphor.
Rovacs: Cut it out, I'm not one of your employees.
Andamo: I treat my employees with the utmost courtesy. It is only my superiors I treat with disrespect.
Andamo: Oh, we got no friends at all.
Lucky: We don't have friends to work with, we work with our enemies.
Andamo: Oh, we got plenty of those. Right now our best one is Van Horn.
Lucky: And Mrs. Van Horn. He fights for keeps. But I think she only fights for the sport of it.
Carol Van Horn: I can beat you. Any game... in time.
Lucky: Not much time. I may be leaving soon.
Carol Van Horn: I can beat you.
Lucky: Sure you can.
Carol Van Horn: You're not infallible.
Lucky: Being in the business where I make so many mistakes, all I have is a belief in my own infallibility.
Carol Van Horn: You would.
Carol Van Horn: It's late. I'd better be getting back.
Lucky: It's a good idea to quit while you're ahead.
Carol Van Horn: Now, you don't really believe that, do you?
Lucky: It's a cliche but we always say it.
Lucky: Andamo, we're out of champagne.
Andamo: Well, you know what they say.
Lucky: What do they say?
Andamo: When you're losing, don't entertain like you're winning.
Lucky: What are you trying to prove, Van Horn?
Van Horn: It should be obvious.
Andamo: To you, obvious. To me, I don't get it. What's more, I don't want it.
