Although it is cliché to say so, Mulberry is not only difficult to classify, but also unique. To begin with the show revolves around a relationship seldom touched by the sitcom world: that of platonic love between an older woman and a younger man. Mulberry, an outgoing, flamboyant manservant, is employed by a self-manicured antiquarian, Miss Farnaby. To everyone else she is gruff, unchangeable, and not completely dissimilar to the fixtures in the manor that she lives in; to everyone, of course, except for Mulberry. As the series progresses so too does the affection and companionship between these two seemingly eccentric characters.

The other distinct characteristic is its fairy tale nature. Halfway through the first episode we meet a very odd 'stranger' who immediately peeks the viewers' interest, and by episode five, we are fully aware of the true nature of this mystery man and Mulberry.
