Twenty-two days ago, the pilot of Eva Unit 00 failed her synch test. Rei Ayanami managed to escape the Eva, but sustained a good deal of injury. Twenty-two days later, Eva Unit 00 begins the preparations for another synch test. Having synched with Eva Unit 01 so quickly, Shinji still feels that he is nothing to his father. He may be right.
