An elderly woman carefully assembles a wall of bricks, while her husband sits in his rocker on the other side. The wife explains that she's doing it for his own good to spare him unpleasantness, and makes sure that he's comfortable. She tells him not to worry, and soon it will be all over. As she works, the wife notes that once the doctor say that it's over, there's no point in prolonging the inevitable, and that they both agreed it was for the best. Once the wall is finished, the air will run out and then they'll be quiet and sleep, but they'll still be together.
The wife places the last brick and tells her husband that he should remember the good things in their lives. The doorbell rings and the husband knocks on the wall but gets no response. He says that he'll be back shortly, and then walks up the stairs to answer the door.
