The Devil Is Not Mocked - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
General von Grunn is talking to his grandson, explaining that he fought during World War II and was a patriot.

During the War, Grunn and his Nazi soldiers search the Balkans looking for resistance fighters. They come to a castle suspected to be the resistance headquarters, but are surprised to see a man in a suit and cape comes out. The Master of the Castle says that they are welcome and invites them in. Grunn’s soldiers search the castle and find a table laid out with dinner. The Master of the Castle invites Grunn and his men to join them, but the general suspects poison and has one of the servants sample the food. Once the food is verified safe, Grunn orders his soldiers to round up the servants, and promises the Master of the Castle that they’ll locate the resistance fighters. The Master of the Castle assures him that there is no resistance headquarters in the castle, and orders the servants to make Grunn and his men at home in the castle. Grunn figures that his host is trying to buy his favor and warns him against it, but agrees to eat. He invites the Master of the Castle to join him, but his host says that due to ancient custom, he doesn’t eat until midnight.

As midnight approaches, Grunn informs the Master of the Castle that his royal position will be eliminated and he and his servants will serve Germany. He concludes that his host is the resistance leader and threatens to torture him to reveal the truth, and the Master of the Castle says that at midnight Grunn will know the truth. As wolves howl outside in increasing numbers, Grunn goes to the window and checks on his men, who are being feted in the courtyard by the servants. Turning, the general demands that Master of the Castle give the Nazi salute, and the count does so with obvious displeasure.

Midnight arrives and the soldiers in the courtyard start screaming. Grunn’s lieutenant, Franz, manages to get to the dining room door, but something drags him back. Grunn runs to the window, sees his men being decimated below, and opens fire on their attacks to no effect. The Master of the Castle stands up, reveals a pair of very sharp canine, and suggests that he should have used silver bullets. As Grunn backs away in horror, the Master of the Castle introduces himself as the leader of the resistance: Count Dracula.

Grunn finish telling the story to his grandson, goes to the wall, and shows him the medal of recognition he received for his duties during the war... and bares his own fangs.
