Host: You're all familiar with mediums and seances, the slightly curdling nocturnal event in which the dead come back to visit through the good offices of a middleman or woman. It's a sports that lends itself to table tappings, some ghostly manifestations that float transparently across the room, and a few distant sepulchral voices. This painting offers a new side to the familiar seance, because it tel ls what happens when a seance is successful, but the appearing dead isn't the one expected.
