Although a short story by Thomas F. Monteleone is credited as the basis for this episode, in reality, it isn't. The producers had bought the rights to adapt his story "Rehearsals" (from the anthology book 999), but didn't get to it before the end of the season. As a show of respect, they attached his name to this episode despite his total lack of involvement in its production. Having developed a potent distaste for the show, Monteleone did not appreciate the gesture.
