The setting for this teleplay was supposed to have been the 1950's Deep South and the lynching victim was supposed to have been an Afro-American but sponsor pressure forced changes in the script.
An abbreviated version of this teleplay was later filmed as an episode of The Twilight Zone entitled I Am the Night, Color Me Black.
Rod Steiger would later win an Academy Award for Best Actor in the 1967 movie In the Heat of the Night.
William Shatner later went onto television immortality starring as Captain James T. Kirk on the 1966-69 NBC sci-fi drama Star Trek.
