Episode Recap

At the Acme Finance Credit Union, Sally Decker begs clerk Jim Johnson for the money to cover her orthodontist bills. He tells her that he can't afford to and it'd be illegal to steal the money. Sally goes back to her desk as Ralph Twice comes in to cash a check for the first time. Sally takes a gun from her desk, then shoots Ralph as he leaves. Jim looks on in horror and Sally turns and shoots him dead. She then takes the money from the till, plants the gun on Ralph, and screams for help.

Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin from Police Squad! is on the case and arrives at the credit union. His captain, Ed Hocken, is already on the scene. Ed notices it's the first time they've found a robber, and that Ralph was a family man. They talk to Sally, who testifies that she watched as Twice shot Jim, then she shot Twice. Once. Ed takes her down to the station for her formal statement. Frank isn't convinced, however, and goes back to the lab. Scientist Ted Olsen reveals that the penetration of the bullets based on the distance doesn't match with Sally's story.

Frank and Ed go to Little Italy to talk to Ralph's widow to see what she knows. Mrs. Twice doesn't believe he was guilty and breaks down. At the Police Station, the rundown on Twice proves negative and Frank notices that if he was a crook, he had a lot of people fooled. The bullet penetration report indicates that both shots were fired from the same angle. Frank takes some men down to the credit union and tests shots from various angles. A number of dead officers later, Frank is forced to admit that there's no way that Sally's story matches with the entry path. Frank goes to talk to shoeshine boy Johnny, who tells him the word on the street: Ralph Twice was a good family man and innocent. Sally Decker used to be involved in the numbers and ran bunco scams. He gives Frank the address of Sally's former partner.

Frank talks to Sally's partner, who directs him to the person Sally owed dental money to. Frank makes an appointment with the orthodontist, Dr. Zubatsky, so he can get a look at the man's files. Once Zubatsky steps out, Frank removes the drool tube and tries to go through the files. He discovers that Sally owed a lot of money but paid off the day after the double-killing. When Zubatsky returns, Frank interrogates the dentist, who denies knowing Sally. Frank gets him to admit that Sally was a patient and they went out for a few dates. Frank needs more and goes back to Police Squad! to inform Ed of what happened. Frank fakes Zubatsky's voice and calls Sally, and tells her that he can trace the fresh bills she paid him with and use it for blackmail. He sets up a meeting with her. Ed warns that they'll need more and Frank says he'll get it. Ed warns him to watch his step.

Frank meets Sally, who is surprised to see him. When she tries to leave her, Frank tells her his theory that she shot Twice and Jim, then stole the money to pay off her orthodontist. She claims that she's no criminal, but Frank knows that she was a red-haired gunrunner in Memphis, a brunette hitman, and a backup singer for Aretha Franklin. Sally goes for her gun but Frank manages to disarm her. Sally attacks him with her wig and takes cover, then opens fire. Frank shoots back and then calls on her to surrender. Sally runs out of bullets and makes a run for it, but Ed and the boys arrive and capture her.

Later at Police Squad!, Ed admires Frank's work but wonders how he knew the money was traceable. Frank admits he didn't, but then again, neither did Sally.
