Tommy was a new Angel Grove High student ready to compete in a karate competition. Rita put a spell on him and made him her evil Green Ranger.

Once the Rangers broke Rita's spell he joined the side of good, and became the sixth Power Ranger. However Rita and Lord Zedd had another plan up their sleeves, so they weakened him and destroyed his power.

Then when the Power Rangers needed help the most, Zordon and Alpha 5 were nowhere to be seen. That is because they were off working on making an all new Power Ranger- the White Ranger. Tommy then came back as the more powerful White Ranger to help the Rangers out again in their battle for good.

He then went on to be come the leader of the Turbo/Zeo Ranger's by becoming the Red Ranger.

Then when you just think you have seen the last of him, he pops up as a teacher at a high school, several years later. He picks 3 teenagers to become the Dino Rangers. While he is their leader he finds the black power stone and becomes the Black Dino Rangers and once again is the leader of the Power Rangers.
