Joe Binder (Daniel Stern) is a recent widow who Lives with his teenage son Grant (John Francis Daley), his daughter Joanie (Kelly Karbacz) and her infant daughter Zoe. He is fighting the hardship of being a widow, while trying to help his son with the troubles of high school, and his daughter with the triumphs and tribulations of single motherhood. Not helping are his intrusive father, Baxter (Judd Hirsch), and his high-strung employee Sitvar (Brian George) who works at his hardware store.
