Known as the 'simpleton' or 'half-wit' of the group, Much is the son of the miller who took in Robin Hood when he was young. So although not related by blood, Much and Robin are almost like brothers and perhaps have the closest bond.
After Much's parents are killed by the Sheriff, he joins the soon to be formed band of merry men. In the beginning he was just a boy and his duties were those without much danger; yet, as he got older, so too did the tasks given to him, including full on hand to hand combat. Despite his increased physical prowess, his ability to think has not developed so graciously, and so he has always had trouble when it comes to making decisions.
After Robin died, Much went away with Little John, but not as equals; more like a father and son. Much's decision to rejoin the band, as they tried to rescue Marion from Owen of Clun, is a turning point in his maturity, and Tuck proclaims that he is a man and can choose his own path.
