Recap
The first of a two parts sees the beginning of Robin Hood back in the village of Loxley in the year 1180, back when Robin was still a small boy. During a raid on the village by the Sheriff of Nottingham's soldiers, Aileric, Robin's Father, slips away quietly with his son, leading him to the safety to the Miller (father of Much). Upon leaving him in the Miller's care, Aileric once more leaves to face his destiny. Aileric dies in a Stonehenge-like setting, cut down by the Sheriff's soldiers' arrows. We learn that not only was Aileric a 'rebel,' but also that he is the keeper of the sacred Silver Arrow (Herne the Hunter's Silver Arrow to be more specific). In Aileric's death gasp he foretells the coming of 'the hooded man.'..

Episode Notes
Alnwick Castle, located in north-eastern county of Northumberland, was used as the outside location for Nottingham Castle, as well as Nottingham Castle courtyard.
Wells Cathedral, in the south-west county of Somerset, is the location for the beautiful staircase leading up to Marion's quarters in Nottingham Castle.
Wookey Hole Caves, also in Somerset, were used as film locations for both Herne's cave, as well the great hall where the Sheriff and Abbot have their first appearance together.
Bramburgh Castle, also in Northumberland, was used for the outside location of Castle Belleme.
Brinkburn Priory, in Northumberland as well, was the site used for both Kirklees Abbey and the interior of Castle Belleme.
Blaise Castle Estate, just outside of Bristol in Somerset, was the scene used for various forest scenes.
Brent Knoll, in Somerset, was the site used for Aileric's death.
The Old Prisoner (also credited once as Old Man in Cell), is certainly an important part of the show, but his appearance is a product of necessity. Apparently they needed a sixth person in order to escape the dungeon, but there had to be a reason for him to stay, and the old man and his pet rat were born!
