This episode begins where the previous one ended, with Gisburne's embarrassing return to Nottingham. It opens with the Sheriff and his brother Hugo having a conversation about Robin Hood and the danger he he represents. The Sheriff then reveals the Silver Arrow to Hugo, and explains it's meaning and history.
We then shift to a romantic scene between Robin and Marion, in which she tells Robin that she was on her way to Kirklees Abbey to become a nun, but he can't understand... she doesn't look like a nun! Robin then asks her to stay with him in Sherwood Forest, and although they share a delicate and loving kiss, she pulls away and insists on her path forward, to Kirklees. He escorts her there and they share one more tender embrace goodbye, and without words, they part.
After they part we see Nasir looking on, then a cut to Herne and Robin in the cave and Herne giving something for Robin to drink which results in visions of the future. Afterwards, again with his merry men, Tom returns back from Nottingham with news that there is to be an archery contest, of which the prize is a silver arrow. Amid protest from his band, Robin insists he goes to Nottingham to compete for the arrow.
In Nottingham we see that the arrow is bait for Robin, and the king's champion archer (the best in England they claim) is also on hand to ensure the arrow remains in the Sheriff's possession. Soon the Baron arrives with his champion (Nasir), and so do the merry men, all in disguise, including Robin dressed as a heavy-set old man. The three aforementioned men shoot well, but Robin is the best splitting Nasir's bull's eye arrow down the middle. As soon as he claims his prize the Sheriff makes his move to seize him, but Robin is just that much faster than good ole' Gisburne allowing the merry men to make a hasty retreat into the forest.
The Baron comes to a distraught Sheriff and proposes a plan of how to lure Robin Hood into certain peril: Marion. They plan to give Marion to the Baron, then Robin will go to save her at which time he will be killed... or that's the plan. Tuck has other plans and flees to Kirklees Abbey as quickly as possible to save Marion. Yet as they flee the Abbey into the forest, they are ambushed by the Baron's soldiers. Tuck awakes to being surrounded by Robin's band, and informs them of Marion's fate. Robin, again amid dissent, insists on going, only this time alone.
Robin arrives at the Castle Belleme just as Marion is being tied to a large upside down pentagram. We can also see the Sheriff's soldiers arriving outside the same castle. After a small skirmish in which Robin is the victim of the Baron's sorcery, we see the Baron presenting Robin, apparently bewitched, with a knife in which he is meant to kill Marion, who pleads for her life. The knife is raised and as the camera raises to see it, it has become the Silver Arrow. In one swift motion he plunges it into the Baron's chest, cuts Marion free (retrieves the arrow) and they make their way out.
All clear? No! Nasir is in their path. The fight, and although Nasir wins, he does not kill him, and we see he was perhaps merely testing Robin. Disobediently Robin's band appears ready to kill Nasir, but Robin shouts for them to stop... they are equal now. Outside the men look out and see the soldiers... a battle ensues and many lives are lost, but the core band escape.
Back at "home" they are more than upset and depressed, they are completely disheartened by what has just happened. Robin rallies them by reminding them what their friends died for, and what they are struggling for: freedom! They pay their respects by shooting fiery arrows into a lake, only after the last of the band fires an arrow, one more goes overhead... turning around they see Nasir, who, wordless expresses a look that says "I'm with you guys." Finally we see a pagan wedding take place before Herne the Hunter, and it's official, or as official as it can get, Marion is Mrs. Robin Hood.
