Robin of Sherwood: The Prophecy

The show opens with Herne in a form of trance where he informs Robin of a prisoner that must be saved. Robin takes this to heart and when Little John is captured he thinks that must be the prisoner, until John tells Robin that not only is Prince John in Nottingham, but also he brings with him a prisoner, wearing something to conceal his identity. Instinct and faith in Herne propels Robin to lead the merry men on a rescue mission.

Episode Goofs
A small goof occurs when Marion says she has thought her father has been dead for five years, when in reality, it should be between six to seven years.
Exlanation: Sir Richard of Leaford captured by Saladin's men... Saladin and King Richard made peace in September 1192, so his capture must be before this time. Hugo says he was released after Saladin's death, in 1193. John becomes king in 1199, therefore Sir Richard has been missing since 1192 and it is 1199.

Cultural References
Peter De Leon refers to himself as Prince John's seneschal, which is similar to a steward. A seneschal has many responsibilities and is generally responsible for the smooth operation (and maximum productivity) of his lord's estate.

Sir Richard, Marion's father was released from being a prisoner after the death of Saladin in 1193. Saladin (Salah ad-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub), in case you'd like to know, was a Kurdish Muslim warrior from the 12th century, who fought against the Crusaders in the Holy Land.

King Richard's capture was referred to by Hugo, when explaining to Marion how her father came to be alive. King Richard was captured at the end of December 1192 by Leopold V of Austria, and was subsequently handed over to Henry VI, the Holy Roman Emperor.

King Richard dies at the end of this episode, as stated by John, by an arrow, while trying to take the Castle of Châlus-Charbrol in Limousin, France. Although there were few men guarding the castle, a crossbow arrow in his shoulder lead to gangrene, and he died on April 6, 1199, eleven days after receiving the wound.
