The Prophecy - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
We begin with Herne and Robin around a fire. Herne seems to be in a trance as Robin looks on bewildered. "A prisoner from the dead close to you... save him," is what he mutters, and Robin is left wondering who he is referring to.

After the opening we see a humourous scene as John is in the dungeon with the Old Prisoner. Suddenly a new man drops in, smooth, witty, saying all the right things.

Back in Sherwood, Robin believes he has solved Herne's riddle and John is the prisoner. They plan to go to the following day to rescue him.

Back at the castle, Gisburne is dictating a letter [to be sent] to the Sheriff, when all of a sudden a man appears, Peter De Leon, seneschal to Prince John, who informs Gisburne that the prince will arrive the next day, and suggests that he begin repairing the crumbling castle walls before he arrives in order to appease him. Gisburne takes this to heart and begins immediately, and uses the prisoners as a work-force in the quarry.

Not soon enough, P. John quickly arrives, with a prisoner, and Gisburne is not prepared and it shows. John informs him to send for Abbot Hugo.

We then see a little boy informing Robin that Little John has been taken to work in the quarry, and in a few moments of screen time later, and he's a free man. Marc, the slick-talker from the dungeon, joins the band. Back in Nottingham, Gisburne feels the brunt of P. John's justice and is held responsible for the loss of the prisoners and death of the soldiers guarding them, and as punishment is sent to the dungeon himself with De Leon filling in as Sheriff.

Hugo arrives and P. John tells him he wishes his support in convincing the Barons that he should be the successor to Richard. To convince Hugo, he shows him his prisoner.

Back in Sherwood, Robin has learned that L. John has seen a prisoner, and plans to rescue him with Marc's help. Marc offers to go to Gisburne, tell him he has joined the outlaws and take Gisburne and his men into Sherwood to capture Robin Hood, thus giving the merry men a chance to have a near empty castle to get the prisoner out of.

Marc reaches the castle and is thrown into the dungeon with Gisburne. Now it's revealed that his real name is Henry and he was a plant in the dungeon for him to find out what he can from Little John. He tells Sir Guy of the plan they made and Gisburne makes one of his own. If and when they come for the prisoner, he said, they will come for Henry/Marc as well, and he should go with him and kill the prisoner. If he does, he is assured to be in favour of P. John.

Hugo leaves Nottingham charged with the duty of persuading the Noblemen, but his venture into the world is cut short by a Robin Hood ambush. They coerce out of him both that Gisburne is locked up, and the identity of the prisoner: Marion's father, who had been presumed dead for some five years (see Goofs).

One of Hugo's soldiers arrives at Nottingham castle, wounded and tells of Robin Hood's ambush. Infuriated P. John instructs De Leon to hunt him down at once, despite the fact that it's night. De Leon, loyal that he is, rounds up his men as well as the Sheriff's men and heads out in search of Robin Hood.

We see the wounded soldier having his wounds seen to by a clergyman, but it's not a soldier at all... it's ROBIN HOOD! We then see the merry men at the castle making preparations and quietly getting everything ready. AS usual the plan goes off without a hitch and soon not only is Marion's father free, but also Marc. While escaping though, will gets a crossbow arrow in the back.

They arrive at camp and Marion is delighted to tears to see her father. He gives his blessing to her and her choices in life despite not stipulating agreement.

Back at the castle, John, as usual, is berating De Leon for his own decision, and re-instates Gisburne in his post. Gisburne tells him of his 'man' and the plan to silence Sir Richard. Gisburne blames De Leon and so does P. John, and he is locked up, despite the glaring reality that John made his own bad choices yet cannot face up to that.

It's decided that Marc will accompany Sir Richard to Normandy, since not only is he a sailor but also he owes Robin Hood for saving him from imprisonment... twice. Robin eagerly accepts. Soon after they leave, however, Hugo asks when 'Henry' was outlawed, revealing his true identity, and Will sends Much to catch up with them. We know what is going on, but they don't and there is a tense goodbye scene on the beach. Much doesn't arrive until they are in the boat and rowing away. But not far enough, Robin rushes on horseback into the water while Henry tries to kill Sir Richard. Robin arrives and fights with Marc/Henry... until finally finally, he's taken care of. But not to worry, the king has already died, and named John his heir. Sir Richard, not knowing this, has set sail for Normandy anyway. Finally, Herne lets us know, the prophecy has been fulfilled.
