Rocket Power was shown on Nickelodeon on August 16, 1999, and it has now been taken off air (NickToons Network rarely shows repeats). The show is about four kids who are obsessed with thrilling and extreme sports. Otto Rocket, Reggie Rocket, and their pals Twister Rodriguez and Sam Dullard are experts at just about every aggressive sport you can think of. Their hometown Ocean Shores is the ultimate place for nailing the curl, skating the half-pipe or roller-blading on the boardwalk. There are intense sports for all seasons, however, don't be surprised if you see the Rocket Team going up to the mountains for snowboarding, ice hockey, and all manner of arctic adventures. All of this competition can get very serious. So it's a good thing that adults like Otto and Reggie's dad Raymundo and his business partner Tito Makani are around to remind everyone that friendship is more important than winning.
A made for TV movie, Race Across New Zealand, was shown on Nickelodeon in February 2002 (opposite the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City) which featured activities such as zorb riding and floating down underground streams, as part of a junior sports activities in New Zealand.
Another TV movie based on the series, Reggie's Big (Beach) Break, focusing on a spring-break type sports and music beach celebration, aired on Nickelodeon in July of 2003.
Klasky-Csupo announced shortly thereafter in their online newsletter that a third TV movie, Island of the Menehune, about a vacation to Hawaii and telling some information about Raymundo's late wife Danielle (who got briefly mentioned, but not by name, in the show's Christmas special in December 2003), would be shown on Nickelodeon at some time in the future, and it aired in July 2004. That TV movie led to a wedding between Ray and Tito's cousin Noelani (voice of Kim Mai Guest) in "The Big Day" (the last new episode to be aired) later in the same month.
Rocket Power also had cameos of sports figures, for example, skaters Tony Hawk (Enter the Hawk-trix) and Andy MacDonald (Beach Break), and hockey stars Jeremy Roenick, Luc Robitaille, and Martin Brodeur (Power Play). There have also been a numerous amount of episodes on rather bizarre topics: Radical New Equipment showed a (rather competitive) disabled girl snowboarder and won an award from The Association for the Severely Handicapped, while Major Scrummage focused on Reggie's obsession to play rugby, a sport relatively unknown in the United States.
