A mysterious sniper wounds Slattery and follows the attack with death threats. The people behind the attempt are trying to prevent Slattery from passing a bill. Representative Slattery insists
on appearing at public functions despite being wounded in an asassination attempt and subsequent death threats.

Slattery finds that his office and his girl friend's house have been bugged when he fights to make electronic eavesdropping illegal. In this episode Francis James Slattery has an iron jaw and a blistering tongue against his fellow legislators who favor wire tapping. But mostly he is wrapped in the arms of Kathie Browne, a newscaster with ambitions, until they discover the world is listening to their wooing. They tear their houses apart to find hidden microphones.

A good, balanced David Karp script takes aim at military extremist groups in this episode.
Lloyd Nolan does a fine job as the chilling, warped leader of a group called the Frontiersmen, under investigation by Representative Slattery. A subversive group known as the Frontiersmen comes to the attention of Rep. Slattery. Lloyd Nolan plays the chief of the group who discovers an undercover agent has been planted by Slattery in his organization.
Nolan tells Slattery he will release the agent unharmed if the state representative will drop his fight against them.

35 :02x09 - The Last Commuter

Slattery gets involved with a man who turns to him because a railroad no longer stops at his station and he is unwilling to move to another town with a train stop. Slattery is all for settling the matter without fanfare when Liz gets wind of it and turns it into an emotionally charged situation. The railroad is now forced to defend itself and in so doing attempts to paint Slattery as a cheap politician making capital of the problem. Guest stars Lew Ayres (in the title role), Joan Blondell.
