Slattery gets involved with a man who turns to him because a railroad no longer stops at his station and he is unwilling to move to another town with a train stop. Slattery is all for settling the matter without fanfare when Liz gets wind of it and turns it into an emotionally charged situation. The railroad is now forced to defend itself and in so doing attempts to paint Slattery as a cheap politician making capital of the problem. Guest stars Lew Ayres (in the title role), Joan Blondell.
