Dori Day Afternoon - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Hammer and Doreau are driving to work when they spot a crowd on the sidewalk. They're watching a man preparing to jump, but Hammer takes out his gun and shoots at the man's feet until he goes back into the window. Hammer's down to one bullet and needs to stop at the bank to get some cash. The ATM can't process Hammer's request due to insufficient funds and Doreau convinces him to go inside rather than shoot the ATM. The bank manager, Crandell, is foreclosing on an old woman's home when Hammer and Doreau enter. When Hammer insists the ATM made a mistake, Crandell insists that can't happen but offers to check it out. When the manager makes a joke on his name, Hammer goes after him but Doreau convinces him to act like a civil human being. He relents but they're interrupted when bank robbers Cliff and Lou enter and take everything, even a boy's piggy bank and Doreau's purse with her gun.

With only one bullet left, there's not much Hammer but Hammer spots the silent alarm and tries to trigger it when Crandell refuses. He manages to succeed, only to discover it isn't silent. The police move in and surround the place and Trunk recognizes Hammer's car. The robbers point out Hammer and force him to call them sir, then have him answer the phone call from Trunk. He puts Trunk on and the captain tries to negotiate without success.

While Hammer tries to work out how to shoot both robbers with one bullet, the robbers call in pizza for the hostages. Trunk sends in an officer disguised as a pizza delivery boy and the robbers overlook his ankle gun until it falls out of his cuff. Cliff knocks the officer down then sends him out to relay their demands for a plane. He then takes Hammer up to the doors to shoot him if the police move in, but Doreau volunteers herself as a police officer and whispers to Hammer to take the shot. Cliff taunts Hammer, saying Doreau is more of a man than he is. Hammer goes for his gun and prepares to take the shot, but the hostages get in the way when Trunk announces he's giving into the robbers' demands.

Hammer tries to calm the situation down but realizes the Cliff is a psycho who acts a lot like himself. The bus arrives and Cliff and Lou have the hostages hold hands and circle them. They head outside to the bus but Hammer gets the young boy to run to the cops. Everyone else gets on the bus and Doreau takes the wheel. Hammer orders the terminal as far away as possible from the terminal, then informs Mayjoy that there's no pilot. The bus heads to the airport while Cliff mentions Lou's sister needing an operation. Hammer talks to Lou and finds out they're talking about plastic surgery. They arrive at the airport and everyone boards, and they realize there's no pilot. Trunk assures the chief that the plane isn't going anywhere... as the plane lifts off with Cliff as the pilot. When Lou is distracted, Doreau and Hammer attack him and Hammer (eventually) manages to take him out. Hammer heads for the cockpit and Lou puts up a fight. The two men struggle and Hammer takes out the robber.

With no pilot they have three minutes until the plane crashes. Hammer takes the control but Doreau explains he's had flying experience, but not much. Worse still, the fuel has been dumped. Doreau prepares for a crash landing and Hammer tries to reassure the passengers. They end up landing relatively safely but Lou draws a knife and heads for the door. He goes out the door... and plummets into the street below, where the plane down atop a building. Later, Hammer visits the ATM machine again but his personal ID number has been discontinued. Doreau suggests he use his last bullet and Hammer prepares to shoot...
