Episode Notes |
| |
Several scenes were deleted from the final portion of the episode, explaining what "Witchcraft" Quinn did to "Regular" Quinn's timer. These scenes were not included on the Season 1 & 2 DVD. | Ross J. Kelly's "office" building is really the Saltair Palace in Salt Lake City, UT. | SEASON 2 OPENING NARRATION: What if you could travel to parallel worlds? The same year, the same Earth, only different dimension. A world where the Russians rule America? Or where your dreams of being superstar came true? Or where San Francisco was a maximum security prison? My friends and I found the gateway. Now the problem is... finding a way back home. | Originally, FOX wouldn't allow any kind of resolution to last season's cliffhanger. They believed that after nearly a year, no one would remember there was a cliffhanger. Tracy Torme fought them on this issue and somewhat succeeded, getting a short teaser devoted to trying to wrap things up. |

Episode Quotes |

Arturo: There's one constant about every America we visit.
Rembrandt: Yeah, the healthcare system always sucks. | Dr. Xang: Your friend's headache is annihilated.
Arturo: Headache? He's got a gunshot wound in his shoulder!
Dr. Xang: Oh, that's too bad. I don't do shoulders. | (After the Sliders are presented with a rather large bill from Dr. Xang)
Arturo: Given the fraudulent nature of this man's claims, I suggest a response that harkens back to our childhoods... (Outside the doctor's office) Run! Run like hell! | Quinn: Here's the bad news: fifty-three seconds until the next window. If this isn't home, if we're wrong ... we're stuck here.
Rembrandt: I don't know, guys. According to this, O.J. Simpson was tried for a double murder, the Raiders play in Oakland, the Cleveland Indians made the World Series.
Wade: A lot could have happened since we left.
Arturo: That much? |

Episode Goofs |

The four slide out of the first world in the day, but it's night when they land on the next world. | When Wade asks the Sorcerer who else saw his face, he answers "Only Mr. Gale... well, and you guys." This doesn't make much sense, since when the two guards follow Gale into the secret room, they don't even seem surprised. Thus they've probably been in on it already, and even if not - they still saw him now, right? | When Professor Arturo is examining the items on the witch doctor's wall, a boom mic appears at the bottom of the frame. The camera quickly zooms in to crop it out. | When the doctor examines Wade briefly, he flips the bird at the camera. Somehow, it made it through. | Professor Arturo and Wade's hair could not possibly have grown so much during the three days which have apparently passed since sliding out at the end of "Luck of the Draw". | There is no reference to the fate of Henry, Wade's dog from "Luck of the Draw" who slid with them at the end of that episode. |

Icarus
Arturo mentions that to Quinn, "Sliding is like a box of matches. He opened the box, and he got burned." Ryan mentions Icarus, who tried to fly to the sun and instead met his demise when his wax wings melted from the heat and Icarus plummeted to the Earth. Quinn wanted to explore new frontiers, and wound up getting shot and almost dying. | The Wizard Of Oz
The Sorcerer's lair is similar to the Wizard's lair in Oz. In addition, the sorcerer acts like the Wizard when the party Slides back to their world - he tells Rembrandt he's got a great heart (making him the Tin Man), says something like "Courage to the Brave" in French to the professor, (making him the Lion) and lastly, Quinn says, "I know, I owe you my brain." Clearly, Wade is Dorothy. | Dr Xang: ...next to our beloved ex-president, Ed Wood Jr.
This is a reference to the actor, screenwriter, editor and director Edward D. Wood, Jr., who is widely considered to be the worst and most incompetent film director. Consequently, he has become a major cult figure. Throughout the 1950s, he produced numerous poorly made science films, replete with obvious technical errors and cheap special effects. One of these films Plan 9 from Outer Space - which Wood considered his best - has been repeatedly described as the worst film ever made. | Wade: It's the witches' alphabet. My friend Sabrina was into this stuff.
A quick nod to another Universal produced show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Some have speculated that it's also a reference to Sabrina Lloyd herself. |

Timer Explanation: Part 3
FAIR WARNING: This includes material from the deleted scenes mentioned in the Notes section. In this episode, "Witchcraft Quinn" fixes up the timer for the group so they can Slide home. Basically what happens is he fixes the timer to give them a one shot open that is supposed to send them home. It doesn't affect their normal countdown (remember that) so if it doesn't work, they can continue sliding. When the group slides (through a better looking portal this season), they obviously hit home. However, none of them remembered that the normal timer was still counting down. This is why when they hit Home, the timer only gives them a 90 second window. When they slide out, the timer's original configuration still holds, making it so they will never hit that world again. Which basically means at this point in the series, they lose their chance of ever making it home. |
