A secret Chicago police unit battles paranormal creatures. First up: a young cop joins the squad after witnessing a gargoyle abduct a child. Partnered with the cynical Nick O'Malley, she allows herself to be used as a decoy in an attempt to catch the creature, which is kidnapping prey to use to feed its new batch of eggs when they hatch in the thousands and swarm the city.

Since only children can see the Boogeyman, Jake insists on helping them kill the creature that put his father in jail.
